Collectively, this holiday season has not been as festive as years past. Between being trapped in my home for the 9th month in a row and not being able to see family and friends it’s hard to feel merry and bright. The whole family is feeling it, with meltdowns coming from all of us and our emotions spilling over. I knew it was time to take a break and intentionally slow down.
Whether you are working, cleaning, cooking or wrapping today -- I hope you find some time to “Simmer Down Now” even if it’s just for a moment.
Happy Solstice.
Sam
I usually let fate decide what fruits to add to my simmer pots. Sometimes I take leftovers from a previous meal or snack, or I will salvage my fruits that are past their prime or that got damaged while shipping my Misfits Market box. I chop them up and add them to my pot.
Adding my spices is where I have the most fun! You really can’t go wrong if you follow your intuition. Sometimes I just add a sprig of rosemary or thyme, while other times I go crazy and add a bit of everything I can find, mixing it together like a real potions master. To keep things seasonal, this time I even added some needles from my Yule tree.
After you fill your pot with all your goodies, you'll want to cover it in water and let it simmer. You can use moon water or just tap water, whatever you have on hand. Remember to keep checking your water level so you don’t burn your pot. You can even turn it off and resimmer it for multiple days if you add more water.
For my Yule pot, I included the following ingredients:
Red Pears
Red and Green Apples
Vanilla
Black Peppercorns
Anise Stars
Cinnamon Sticks
Needles from a Yule Tree
Water
